Visit Port Dover & Ontario’s South Coast

Port Dover is a grand little port town with fine folk and an interesting history; we have been well met everywhere we travelled! Just because the summer is drawing to a close, don’t think Port Dover closes up! Our mates Carrie & Ian keep the Harbour Museum open all year, Cap’t. Bob & his (family) crew run Nómada Charters Boat Tours through to mid-September (they are also available for private events), Penny, Jim & the great staff at The Crepe House remain open Tuesday through Sunday, there are many other restaurants, coffee houses, taverns and lovely places to stay for a weekend retreat on Lake Erie!

Ontario’s “South Coast” has much to see and do – wilderness parks, museums, beaches, cultural events, fresh food and more…we are home to three of the five Great Lakes in Ontario and many other lakes, rivers, streams and waterfalls (Hamilton has over 100 waterfalls alone!) – a true treasure worth protecting and visiting!

Up From The Depths…

…comes our new website!

While we’re still getting things shipshape, we hope ye like the new & improved site…it makes it easier to let ye know what we’re up to!

Like this, for instance….

FYI, this was during the first annual Day Of 1000 Canoes…great fun for all who participated!

Media

Filmed, Edited, Produced in 24 hours for the Hamilton H24 competition…and the only entry produced by & starring Pyrates!

The challenge was to fully produce a film (of less than 5 minutes) in 24 hours (23 technically) and it had to contain 3 elements that were not revealed until hour one: a line from a famous film (I have always depended on the kindness of strangers), a prop (torn clothing) and a location (in or around a pay phone).

So…in true historical fashion, we produced a silent film!

A Nite O’ Jolly Rogerin’

Join us for A Nite O’ Jolly Rogerin’ Pyrate Cruises™

We’re between ships at the moment…but should ye happen to have one we might “commandeer”, we can parley about a few hours entertainment on board! (In fact, we can often recommend a ship for such a purpose)

Sea chanteys, games o’ skill & chance…rum…Pyrate history and legend…and maybe even a share o’ treasure!

Lake, river ocean or pond…heck, we’ll commandeer a swimming pool if the price is agreeable!

Pyrate Lore & Harbour Walks

oswegoJoin Capt. John Swallow and QM Seika Hellbound for Pyrate Lore & Harbour Walks™. Historical tales of Canadian Pyrates – (and other famous Pyrates who used Canada as a base of operations); sunken ships, daring raids, men “put on account” with Pyrate fleets and treasures of all kinds to tempt even honest citizens! True accounts of Canada’s waterways and those who sailed them – and the only two existing, complete, 1812 warships in the world.

Privateers, Buccaneers – and perhaps even a Sea Chantey or two!

Though we list these as “walks”, we are equally able to present to schools, museums, libraries, team building, youth/senior groups…or anyone wishing to see participate in some “living history” about Pyrates, the Great Lakes & Canada  – hail the Captain for more info.

PLEASE NOTE: There are no scheduled walks after Labour Day Weekend.

Port Dover

Lake Erie may be home to more nautical mis-adventures than any o’ the Great Lakes; interesting since it’s also the shallowest!

  • The Burmese ship that became an Australian prison and ended up as a notorious sideshow in Lake Erie 100 years later
  • The giant woman who saved drowning sailors during a storm by carrying them in from the waves
  • “Mooncussers” and why sailors feared them
  • Rum Runners, Bootleggers & Prohibition
  • Treasures from the lake…and those still buried
  • The Lake Erie Quadrangle (more deadly than the Bermuda Triangle)
  • $100,000 reward for capture of “Bessie” – the Lake Erie Sea Monster

Join us for these and other tales o’ Pyrates in the Great Lakes & Canada!
